The Provost Guard can truthfully be called the police Unit of the Temple since many of their duties are related to traffic control, Guarding of Temple funds at the circus and Shrine benefit day, and providing security during any other functions as may be requested by the potentate. The Guard displays the National, State and Temple flags at each parade on our float. They also provide a Color Guard, upon request, for other Unit functions, dedications, etc.
The Guard's competition is centered around three recognized pistol matches each year. The first is the TSPGA Provost Guard Mid-Winter Convention in March following by the Texas Shrine Association All State convention in June, and the TSPGA Fall Invitational match in October. There are other invitational and practice matches throughout the year.
The Ben Hur Provost Guard is recognized state-wide for their award winning pistol teams. Although the Unit is known for its pistol teams, it is not a requirement that a new member be a shooter. There are many other activities and duties in which to participate.
Unit dues are $25.00 annually with a $25.00 initiation fee. Anyone interested in joining the Guard should contact any Guard member for details.
